LIFT stands for Literacy Interactive Foothill Team and it is a non-profit volunteer organization. The members are your friends and neighbors here in the mountains who have volunteered their time to tutor our youth and adults in reading, writing and math.

The Literacy Interactive Foothill Team will provide literacy assistance for individuals residing within the Sierra High School Service Area of Fresno County, State of California.
Basic literacy assistance will be provided for all ages by trained volunteer tutors and will include reading, writing and math in the English language. This assistance will enable learners to raise academic skills, empowering them to participate successfully in their society.
LIFT (Literacy Interactive Foothill Team) opened a foothill Adult Literacy Center in 1992, in the mobile home on the Auberry Elementary School campus. |

Anyone who is 18 years old, or older and lives in the foothill area may become an adult student. All you need is a desire to begin learning.
Every effort is made to match a student with a tutor who can make the total experience pleasant and successful. New students are assessed and placed at the learning level necessary for their needs. Adult basic education including ESL/Spanish classes. |
|
Youth students are referred to LIFT through their respective schools or parent. Trained tutors offer students assistance in small groups or a one-on-one basis at their school or agreed upon public setting. LIFT youth programs target basic reading writing and math development in grades K through 6.
Programs also include Reading Buddies, and a Middle/High School program, targeting students at risk of retention and/or dropout.
Prospective tutors attend and complete tutor training classes, qualifying them to work with youth students at our local schools and adult students at the literacy center. Tutors use the Barton Reading and Spelling System, which is a multisensory Phonics System. Training information available at the center.
